Welcome to the Science Fair Foundation of BC

The Science Fair Foundation British Columbia serves to support, organize, stage and fund-raise for Science Fairs in BC. This extends to Local, Regional, Canada-Wide and International Science Fairs where students supported by the foundation have consistently produced high standard projects.

In British Columbia, 14 regional fairs are part of the nearly 100 fairs held every year across Canada. Each fair is affiliated with Youth Science Canada. Science fairs in British Columbia are supported by the Science Fair Foundation BC which is located in downtown Vancouver

This website is intended to

  • assist teachers and students with science fair projects
  • to recognize the success of BC students
  • thank our sponsors for their generous support of our activities

Science Fair Foundation BC and the Vancouver School District (VSB) collaborated on a professional development  opportunity for teachers called Smarter Science. Smarter Science is a framework for teaching and learning science in grades 1 to 12, promoting inquiry and investigation to help students learn to think and act like scientists. It is part of Youth Science Canada’s program and was developed by teachers for engaging students in science.

Twenty (20) teachers from around the province, eight from the Regional Science Fair Network and 12 from the Lower Mainland area participated in the Smarter Science Workshops offered by the VSB over four weekends with a final “Train the Trainer” session in early February. After completing the sessions, the teachers are ready to plan and present workshops for other teachers in their community for a cross-curricular inquiry based learning opportunity that helps students naturally progress into science fairs.

For teachers interested in these workshops, Smarter Science is offering an Inquiry by the Mountain conference in Vancouver at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus on August 21 to 22, 2013.
