Notice Regarding the 2020 STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run:

The province of British Columbia has recently directed that all public gatherings of more than 50 people scheduled before May 31, 2020 should be cancelled or postponed (BC Gov website).  As a result, the STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run to be held on May 24, 2020 will be cancelled.

We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this difficult and extraordinary time in the world with the realities of COVID-19 and its impact on our communities. We look forward to inviting you back to the event in May 2021.

The Fun Run draws 1000+ attendees of all ages every year. In the face of this global health concern, we urge all participants, sponsors, and partners to stay healthy and vigilant of the risks. The Government of Canada's Guidelines on Preparation for the novel coronavirus is published here.

We thank you for your interest in the 2020 STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run. The STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run is the main fundraising event for Science Fairs in British Columbia and proceeds support the 13 Regional Science Fairs throughout BC and the Yukon, as well as our other Programs for youth.

Most students have already completed their Science Fair projects in advance of the Regional Fairs in BC that are now cancelled. Please be assured that the Science Fair Foundation of BC will be working hard over the next few months to deliver online programming to youth throughout British Columbia and the Yukon. We are working with our Regional Science Fairs to offer virtual Science Fairs where possible and the Youth Innovation Showcase will move to online events as necessary, to ensure that the students receive the best experience possible in these turbulent times.

If you or your organization are interested in being involved in these efforts, please let us know at info[at]sciencefairs.ca. In addition, any assistance that you are able to offer to help us get the word out about these programs would be greatly appreciated.

About the Science Fair Fun Run:

The Annual STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run is held at Athletes Village Plaza in Vancouver, BC.

Supporting young scientists across the province, the Fun Run is the largest timed 5K race in BC and one of the largest events in BC's technology industry. This family-oriented event features Team BC's award-winning Science Fair projects, giveaways, prizes, games and activities!

Participants can also opt for the untimed 1K run/walk.

Participation in the annual STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run ensures the success of future Science Fairs in BC and allows our youth to gain the skills they need to succeed in a fast-paced, knowledge-based world.

All proceeds from the event go to The Dr. Michael Smith Science Fair Endowment to support the promotion and development of Science Fair Programs throughout the province.

The 5K STEMCELL Science Fair Fun Run will begin and end on Athletes Way between Salt & Manitoba. The race will head West to Columbia, left to Walter Hardwick, left again heading East to Ontario, right to 1st Ave. The race will then head West all the way along 1st Ave to under the Cambie Bridge turning right on Spyglass to the seawall, left onto seawall past Mahony & Sons and continue on to Charleson Park, turning left onto the pathway through the park and coming out on Sawyers Lane, left on Moberly, right on Commodore, and back along 1st Ave then left again on Ontario and left again on Athletes Way to the finish line on Salt.

Join in the fun with your young runner and take part in the 1K Mini Fun Run. Strollers are welcome with no additional entry required for the stroller contents!

Timing

Participants in the 5K category will have the opportunity to track their start and finish times with a bib tag timing device.  A bib tag is a small lightweight disposable device that is attached to the back of your race number.  Without the bib tag on the back of your race number, you will not receive a time.

Your time will start the moment you cross the mats at the start and then stop the moment you cross the timing mats at the finish line.
