Registration Open for Fifth Annual Youth Innovation Showcase

September | 2023
Vancouver, BC - The Science Fair Foundation BC is excited to announce that registration is now open for the fifth annual Youth Innovation Showcase. Youth across BC and the Yukon can enter their project for a chance to win $5,000.

“Every year, the projects submitted blow me away,” said Sarah Prade, Executive Director of the Science Fair Foundation BC. “From a better way to conduct knee surgery to a safer way to transport chickens, we have seen so many great innovative solutions to real-world problems and I cannot wait to see what this year’s youth bring to the table.”

The 2023 Youth Innovation Showcase is a virtual STEM competition for youth in BC and the Yukon who have used science to solve a challenge in their life or community. These solutions can be world-shaking or small-scale. All projects are encouraged to register and the foundation accepts projects in any scientific field at any stage of development, from ideas all the way up to finished and tested prototypes.

The showcase also has sponsorship and judging support from prominent organizations in BC’s tech community.

“Driving innovation and curiosity is at the heart of what we do at Genome BC and the Youth Innovation Showcase is a perfect fit. We are excited by the power and application of young minds to bring creative solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges,” said Sally Greenwood, Genome BC, VP Communications and Societal Engagement.

“BCIT champions the Youth Innovation Showcase and the Science Fair Foundation as they empower youth in becoming the leaders of tomorrow. By fostering innovation and hands-on learning, the Showcase elevates those students who are making a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond,” said Kacem Habiballah, Interim Associate Vice President of Academic Operations at BCIT.

Eligible participants must be between 12 and 19 years old as of August 14th, 2023 and live in British Columbia or the Yukon.

Individuals and teams (2 people maximum) are invited to participate and will be divided into one of two age categories: 12 to 15 years old, and 16 to 19 years old. The two age categories will be evaluated separately; there is one $5,000 grand prize for each age category.
