BC/Yukon Science Fairs - Science Fair Foundation British Columbia

The Provincial Awards Program is available to all participants of the 13 Regional Science Fairs of BC and the Yukon. The Provincial Awards are generously sponsored by corporations and organizations who support youth's success in science and technology.

BC Agriculture in the Classroom Award

$65

To be awarded to an outstanding project that shows the practical application of scientific principles to agriculture. Students from Grades 5 to 12 are eligible for the award.

BC Game Developers Innovation Award

Cash to Student.

Junior	$50

To be awarded to the student(s) whose project demonstrates creativity and innovation in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or astronomy.

BC Greenhouse Growers' Award

$75 Cash to Student.

To be awarded to an outstanding project that demonstrates the creative use of advanced science and technology to enhance vegetable plant productivity and quality. Projects eligible for this award include those in the area of biological pest control, irrigation, nutrition, growing media, climate control and mechanics.
Available to Fraser Valley, Greater Vancouver and South Fraser Regional Science Fairs only.

BC Hydro Power Pioneers Award

$100 Cash to Student.

To be awarded to a student(s) in Grades 4 to 12 who creates a project which creatively demonstrates electrical conservation and its environmental, social and economical impacts.

BC Nature Award

$75 Cash Award to a Junior student per region.
$75 Cash Award to a Senior student per region.

To be awarded at each British Columbia Regional Science Fair to the best natural history project done by a student(s) in Grades 6 to 8 (junior) and Grades 9 to 12 (senior). This includes studies of any aspect of natural history, conservation of natural habitats, and/or natural species. An outdoor, nature monitoring or conservation project is strongly encouraged.

BC Science Teachers' Award

$100 Cash to Student.

To be awarded to a student(s) from grades 7 or 8 for an experimental project in any category that has clearly presented a hypothesis and independent, controlled variables.

Engineers & Geoscientists of BC Award

Cash to Student determined by each local Chapter.

To be awarded to outstanding engineering projects. Projects eligible for this award include those in the fields of chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, industrial and mechanical engineering as well as systems design.

Genome BC Scholarship

$1,000 Scholarship Nomination

To be awarded to a Grade 12 student who has developed a science and technology project focused on areas of strategic importance such as human health, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, bioenergy, mining, and the environment. The winner must pursue a science degree in British Columbia.

Genome BC Award

Two Awards, Each $100 Cash to Students.

To be awarded to two projects per region dealing with a topic of genomic interest. Students in all grades are eligible for this award.

Julia Lane Award & Scholarship

Julia Lane Award

$200 Cash to Student.

To be awarded to a student with a passion for science and community. Preference given to female candidates with projects relating to Geology or Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Julia Lane Scholarship

$2400

To be awarded to a Grade 11 or 12 student with a passion for science and community. Preference given to female candidates with projects relating to Geology or Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Michael Crooks Physics Prize

$75 Cash to Student

To be awarded to a student(s) in Grades 6 to 12 who has done an outstanding physics-related project.

MIT Alumni of BC Award

$100 Cash to Student.

To be awarded to a project that demonstrates informed curiosity, exploration, and discovery as well as the practical potential for real world application and entrepreneurship.

The recipient(s) of this award will be selected from the British Columbia students’ projects that participate in the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF). Nomination forms need not be submitted. All students attending the CWSF are automatically eligible.

Available until 2024 due to funding. Please contact us if you would like to contribute to renewing this award.

SCWIST Award

$100 Cash to Student.

To be given to young women, preferably in Grades 8 to 10, whose project shows the greatest curiosity, ingenuity and innovation in design. The award is intended to encourage the student’s interest in science. A student may not receive this award more than once.

Women in Engineering and Geoscience Award

$50 Cash to Student ($25 each if two people on team).

To be awarded to a young woman, or a partnership including at least one young woman, who presents and communicates an ingenious solution to an engineering or applied science problem/project by applying their knowledge of science and math.
Available to all 13 regions.
