Youth Innovation Showcase

The Youth Innovation Showcase encourages youth to explore creative ways to solve everyday challenges, and to see how your theoretical solutions can become real-world change. These young innovators come face-to-face with industry and academic leaders to pitch their great new ideas and inventions, get feedback from experts in the field, and find out where a career in STEM can take them.

Sweatin' For Science

Join us from May 1 to May 31! Participants from the corporate STEM community across BC + Yukon join and commit to “gettin’ their sweat on” while tracking their fitness activities, to raise awareness to + funding for increased access to science, technology and innovation education programs for youth, so all youth with a passion in STEM can have the opportunity to pursue their interests.

Tech Leadership Committee

Our mandate is to support youth from across BC + Yukon as they explore their curiosity in science, tech and innovation as possible lifelong career opportunities in their lives.

Our programming includes: 13 annual Regional Science Fairs, annual Youth Innovation Showcase, Let's Innovate! Podcast and our annual fitness fundraising + awareness campaign, Sweatin' For Science. 

The purpose of the Tech Leadership Committee is simple: Collaboration + Knowledge Sharing Across Industries 
The ecosystem; academia, industry and education/career-focused youth organizations are interdependent. We succeed in our communities, in our province+ territories and as a country when our youth are set up for success from the start and see value and opportunities when pursuing education + careers that excite them to not only sustain but continue to grow our region's economies. Let's start the conversations!

This is an open call for applications. 

  • Time commitment: Min 1.5h/qrtr 
  • The term of your appointment will be for one year beginning in November 2021.
  • Eligibility: open to:
    • Academic community
    • Science, Tech + Innovation industry
    • Executives/experts
    • Live in communities across BC + Yukon
    • Traditional + non-traditional industries
    • Disrupters who want to make a difference in how youth explore future career opportunities
Primary Goal:  
  • Meet quarterly (November, February, May, August)  - Currently Virtual
  • Discuss best practices, concerns, and industry insights to current and future opportunities in Science, Tech and Innovation in BC + Yukon
  • Identify current success models or concerns in access to opportunities for youth to pursue Science, Tech and Innovation  
  • Champion Science, Tech + Innovation opportunities in BC + Yukon
  • Support youth pursuits in Science, Tech + Innovation across BC + Yukon
  • Shape future programming + seek collaborative ways to support each other's initiatives, where appropriate.
  • Work to reduce/remove barriers for youth to access opportunities in BC + Yukon (financial, education, resources)
Secondary Opportunity with Science Fair Foundation BC:
  • Where interest/need exist, the opportunity to share your knowledge, connections and time by joining a sub-committee that will be determined (for example: Events; Strategy + Communications; Programming, Mentorship + Career- Prep and Networking + Revenue Development)
Perks May Include:
  • Opportunity; 'Let's Innovate!' podcast speaker
  • Opportunity; Science Fair and/or Youth Innovation Showcase judge 
  • Future program/workshop speaker/facilitator
  • Application to apply for Science Fair Foundation BC Board of Directors seat
