On March 12, 2019, The Science Fair Foundation of BC invited five youth from across BC & the Yukon to pitch their innovative soluntion on the main stage at the 2019 #BCTECH Summit to technology industry leaders. These youth had 2 minutes to pitch their innovation followed by a 3 minute Q&A from the judges.

Who Participated?

  • Ray Liu - 19yrs. Solvent Polymer Deposition 3D Printing: Cost Effective Composite Rapid Prototyping with Sustainability in Mind (cleantech). 

  • Aaliyah Mahboubi – 15yrs . Microbial Film Power Generation; harnessing power from the decomposition in bogs (cleantech).   

  • Mac Dykeman – 13yrs. – created safer Chick-Ments: An Innovative Solution to Reducing Stress in Chick Shipments. (agritech).   

  • Natasha Burgert – 17yrs. – 100% Solar Vehicle: High efficiency Solar Modules in Sustainable Transport (cleantech).   

  • Nicolas Fedrigo – 17 yrs. – Improving Spinal Fusions: Redesigned the Pedicle Probe to Prevent Spinal Breaches. (life sciences).

Who Were the Judges?

The 2019 event had four incredible women and industry icons as adjudicators indlucing:
  • Beth Bell, Vice President - Enterprise & Commercial Canada - IBM

  • Nyla Ahmad, Sr. VP, Enterprise Marketing - Rogers

  • Manjit Minhas, Co-Founder, Minhas Breweries & Distillery, Dragons’ Den

  • Joy Johnson, VP, Research and International – Simon Fraser University

Who Won?

The winner of the event, Ray Liu, received $5,000 cash courtesy of IBM.
All four runner-up participates received $1,000 cash courtesy of Rogers.
